I love drawing matryoshkas (Russian nesting dolls). From a simple peanut-like shape, comes endless bedazzling possibilities – red hair, blue hair, dots, stripes, not to mention a huge array of flowers to pick from (I drew flowers from my garden :D). While some tell classic stories, my matryoshkas are meant to share the message of friendship and celebrate diversity (for August’s SCBWI Draw This prompt word, “diverse”). While their hairstyle, skin color, and clothes may vary, each girl is beautiful and unique. After all, the thing that makes matryoshkas truly spectacular is what’s on the inside.
